AIWA Onlus: Appuntamenti

Roma – Circolo Affari Esteri.

THE WORLD OF THE MEDIA AS SEEN BY ARAB AND ITALIAN WOMEN JOURNALISTS.

Discussing “women’s” journalism and, through stories by and about women in the news media, comparing two worlds that are only apparently distant: the Italian and the Arab worlds. This is the goal of a conference on women and the media organised by the Arab Italian Women’s Association (AIWA) and the Agenzia Giornalistica Italia (Italian Journalism Agency – AGI) on 2 and 3 November at the Foreign Ministry in Rome.

Italian and Arab journalists will be discussing their profession, as well as communications and the new media. Also taking part will be leadings politicians such as the Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Emma Bonino, and the Syrian Minister for Culture, Najwa Kassab Hassan.

Senator Bonino praised the initiative and underscored that “international relations must not be considered solely at the level of heads of state. Far from it – different levels of society must be activated”. The conference was opened by Silvia di Savoia, honorary president of AIWA. As she pointed out in her opening address, women must bring to the media and to society “the value of difference as a rich resource. Because without difference there is not democratic life, peace or development”.

A project envisaging the creation of an Internet portal where Arab and western women can continue their dialogue will be opened at the end of the conference.
